LEARNING THE POWER OF PERSEVERANCE

Don’t Back Down (2Timothy 1:8-18)
Just the title to this Sunday’s sermon makes me think about competition, a boxing match, a battle for territory. Our Christian walk is not one out in the park on a playground. It is a battle, it is fierce, it is intense.
We will be back in 2 Timothy, chapter 1, this week, but I am reminded of another man in Scripture that modeled the challenge to not back down. Nehemiah was doing a great work for the Lord in chapter 4 of the book that bears his name, because he had great faith in the Lord. God had put on his heart a burden to rebuild the broken walls of Jerusalem, a ministry of healing and renewal. Surely, no one was going to make that difficult, everyone likes those things right? Wrong.
Nehemiah had some severe opposition to his great work. You can read all about it. But understand that you also will face trials and scorn and ridicule and all manner of discouragement if you are determined to finish in this faith. Remember the words shared last Sunday that you have a bright future, good friends, and a sincere faith. You have nothing to fear, so be encouraged. Come this Sunday as we press on to the next Word from the Lord and discover that nothing has the power to overcome you when your strength and energy are from the Lord of all creation. So, Don’t Back Down. |

VERSE OF THE DAY: My righteousness draws near speedily, my salvation is on the
way, and my arm will bring justice to the nations. The islands will
look to me and wait in hope for my arm.
