If you are not currently in a Life Group, please consider it. These are the “small” churches within our larger one, these are the personal connection and community that far surpass the brief moments on a Sunday morning. These are where your walk with Christ is encouraged and your work for Christ is empowered.
We are hoping to add groups that meet in the areas of Stewardson, Watson, Dieterich, Clay County and any other place where there is a concentration of Cornerstone people. We currently have multiple groups meeting in Effingham and one in Heartville, check out times and topics below. If you have questions about which group may be right for you, please call Aaron in the church office (217.342.6770).
FAQs about Life Groups
Aren’t Life Groups just a “churchy” way of saying “clique?”
Life Groups are indeed a place to form friendships and share the common fellowship of Christ. However, Life Groups are never closed or resist new people. In fact, Life Groups should always be growing and multiplying; seeking out new people. Life Groups are the greatest, non-Sunday morning, way to bring people into relationship with Jesus. They are an amazing tool in our Witness for Christ.
How are Life Groups different from Cornerstone U or other Bible study groups?
Life Groups, while generally centering around a topic or text of study, are more specifically focused on Christian community where people embrace one another in prayer support, family care, and simply enjoying the company of others who walk with Christ. Cornerstone U is more focused the principles of life, Life Groups help to put that learning into practice through fellowship, service, and accountability.
What’s the right size for an effective Life Group?
The answer to that question probably depends the nature of the individual group, but a general guideline would be between 10 and 20 people. Since groups are encouraged to meet in homes and are designed to be more personal in their connection, larger groups are encouraged to multiply into new groups.
Regardless of the environment, Life Groups meet on a regular basis for the primary purpose of connection through accountability, friendship, and community by prayer, service, and a Christ-centered lifestyle.
Here's a listing of some of our current groups.
